The soldering iron is the core tool in any electronics toolset. Without it, you can’t assemble synth DIY projects repair modules. For beginners, we recommend a simple hand soldering iron that plugs directly into 230 V mains. These models are affordable, compact, and reliable.

Fixed vs. temperature-controlled

Fixed-temperature irons are best for starting out: easy to handle, no risk of setting the wrong heat, and less chance of damaging your PCB or components.

Temperature-controlled irons are more versatile but also more complex — a good choice once you gain some experience and work on varied or sensitive projects.

Recommended beginner’s choice

Ersa 30 S (30 Watt) – a proven, affordable iron that can handle most DIY synth builds.

Add an extra tip like the Ersa 032BD for precision work on compact PCBs.
