Products of MRG Synthesizers

MRG Synthesizers (mrgsynth) are handmade modules designed by Gianluca Guida in Cambridge, UK.

These modules are the result of my growing interest in music synthesis. MRG modules implement high quality classical building blocks of subtractive analog synthesis, with a focus on simplicity and versatility.

I approach synthesizers as technical instruments to explore that marvellous connection between mathematics and brain that we call music. Being technical instruments, MRG modules are designed to be conceptually simple (i.e., do one thing well), and their panels are meant to be concise, and somewhat dry and rational.

MRG's most common modules are part of the MRG 4HP series, a series of small, narrow but powerful and elegant modules.

MRG Synthesizer - ATT

sold out at the moment

Triple Passive Attenuator Module for Eurorack modular synthesizers. This is a simple module that allows to attenuate three signals independently.A simple but very useful modules that it's always handy to have in a rack.It is passive, thus requires no external power.DIY-Kit-Type:SMD-Kit-1. This is a Do-It-Yourself kit, not an assembled module. The kit includes all parts to build the module. All SMD parts are pre-soldered, only trough-hole parts to solder. MRG Synthesizer - FOLD

sold out at the moment

The MRG FOLD is a wave folder inspired by the Harmonics section of the Buchla 259. It is not a clone, however, as it has four folding stages instead of five, and the internal opamps of the wavefolding section have been changed from the original to work at 5V instead of 6V. Furthermore, the input signal isinternally attenuated to 1V instead of .7V. All of this required a complete recalculation of all parameters of the wavefolding circuit. As the original, MRG FOLD has the possibility of mixing the input signal with the folded one (dry/wet).A unique feature of the MRG FOLD is that it allows to substitute in the mixing the input signal with an external one.On top of this, the FOLD has an overdrive stage, right after the wet/dry mixing, that contributes to the personality of the module.DIY-Kit-Type:SMD-Kit-1. This is a Do-It-Yourself kit, not an assembled module. The kit includes all parts to build the module. All SMD parts are pre-soldered, only trough-hole parts to solder. MRG Synthesizer - KICK

sold out at the moment

The MRG KICK is a clone of the TR-808 Bass Drum. The major difference with the original circuit, apart from some adjustementfor working at Eurorack levels and voltage, is on the trigger and envelope trigger mechanism. The MRG KICK has two trigger inputs (TRIGGER1 and TRIGGER2). Each of them has a different accent level, and can be usedindependently to generate kicks at different accents that can be changed dynamically. This trigger works eiter with gate signals(e.g. square LFOs) or proper trigger (impulses) signals. As the original, MRG KICK has control for TONE and DECAY. The DECAY in particular can be stretched to a longer decay than the original.Technically, this is not a simple module. Based on a four layers PCB, it uses a rail-to-rail opamp, capable of full 24VPP output signal. This makes the MRG KICK a loud, powerful 808-like BD, perfect for saturation and distortion.DIY-Kit-Type:SMD-Kit-1. This is a Do-It-Yourself kit, not an assembled module. The kit includes all parts to build the module. All SMD parts are pre-soldered, only trough-hole parts to solder. MRG Synthesizer - LPF

sold out at the moment

The MRG LPF is a 24dB low pass voltage controlled filter based on the AS3320 (clone of the CEM3320).It is a classic, clean sounding module and the CV controls for resonance and cutoff are very responsive.Resonance can be set manually almost to the point of self-oscillation, and further CV input can makeThis module a scratchy self-oscillating one.DIY-Kit-Type:SMD-Kit-1. This is a Do-It-Yourself kit, not an assembled module. The kit includes all parts to build the module. All SMD parts are pre-soldered, only trough-hole parts to solder. MRG Synthesizer - LPFa

sold out at the moment

The MRG LPF variant A is a 18dB + 6db low pass voltage controlled filter based on the AS3320 (clone of the CEM3320).The main characteristic of the filter is that one of the four poles is pushed farther away from the origin in the complex plane, creating a slope of 18dB at cutoff with no resonance, and a gentler response towards peak when the resonance is added. This dramatically changes the tone of the filter, and it creates an unique, acid but bass rich filter that still maintainsthat sound clarity that the AS3320 provides with exceptional reliability. In order to shake things a little bit more, a gain control is added, that reaches saturation pretty soon,But can also be lowered to further increase the range of this filter.DIY-Kit-Type:SMD-Kit-1. This is a Do-It-Yourself kit, not an assembled module. The kit includes all parts to build the module. All SMD parts are pre-soldered, only trough-hole parts to solder. MRG Synthesizer - MULTI

only 1 left

This is a simple module that allows to duplicate signals. Each column can be used either as a dual 1x3 multiple, or as a 1x5 multiplier, depending on the presence of a jack in slots 3 and 4.Really simple, but incredibly useful. It is passive, thus requires no external power.DIY-Kit-Type:SMD-Kit-1. This is a Do-It-Yourself kit, not an assembled module. The kit includes all parts to build the module. All SMD parts are pre-soldered, only trough-hole parts to solder. MRG Synthesizer - VCA

sold out at the moment

The MRG VCA is a dual linear VCA module, based on the AS3360 (clone of the CEM3360).It's an extremely flexible module and can be used in a variety of ways. Both VCAs can be controlled by a CV entry, modulated by control knob.VCA1 also has an initial gain control (B1), that offsets the CV input by a constant value. This allows VCA1 to be left always open, with the initial gain controlling the amplification. If both input jacks are used (IN1, IN2), the two VCAs will operate independently. The output of VCA1 will go to OUT1, the output of VCA2 will go to OUT2.If there's no jack in IN2, the two VCAs will be cascaded, and the output of VCA1 will go both to OUT1 and as an input to VCA2.This allows this module to be used to process both the MIDI Velocity and the envelope of an audio signal.DIY-Kit-Type:SMD-Kit-1. This is a Do-It-Yourself kit, not an assembled module. The kit includes all parts to build the module. All SMD parts are pre-soldered, only trough-hole parts to solder. MRG Synthesizer - VCO

sold out at the moment

The MRG VCO is an oscillator based on the AS3340 (clone of the CEM3340).Quality components, polypropylene timing capacitor, and precise tuning make this a small, simple, but high quality oscillator.1V/Oct CV stable over more than 6 octaves, precise waves, PWM and SYNC input.Output waves are square and sawtooth. When no PWM input is present, the square wave has a duty cycle of 50% - this is actually configurable by an internal trimmer.DIY-Kit-Type:SMD-Kit-1. This is a Do-It-Yourself kit, not an assembled module. The kit includes all parts to build the module. All SMD parts are pre-soldered, only trough-hole parts to solder.
