Why Magpie?
One day I came into the kitchen; face covered in the grime of aluminum polishing to show off the custom shiny Tides panel I was working on. My flatmate at the time, Dave Tipper, teased that I looked like a filthy magpie hoarding all the shiny bits of modular gear. For some reason it stuck and we decided to roll with the name because it was just too good and unfortunately very true.

In the course of studying these birds I kind of fell in love - they are considered not only the smartest of birds but also among the most intelligent of any animals. They seem to hand select the sounds they sample and mimic in the same way they select oddities for their hoarde. In fact when you hear a magpie walking around doing a near perfect mimicry of a giggling baby you can begin to understand why there is so much uneasy superstition in the UK around these animals.

It is a common UK superstition to salute a single magpie, say "Hello mr magpie hows the wife and kids?", because a lone magpie is considered a bad omen. This is possibly owing to the fact that magpies mate for life and have been observed holding funeral rites for dead comrades.

Product Safety Information

Please read this safety guide before assembly or use.

Important Notice & Intended Use
• This kit contains only a front panel and printed circuit board (PCB).
• All additional electronic components, hardware, and cables must be sourced separately by the user.
• The kit is intended for adult users experienced in electronics and modular synthesis.
• Assembly, including soldering, is required. Proper testing and installation are essential to ensure safe and functional operation.
• The completed module is intended for installation in a Eurorack-compatible synthesizer system powered by ±12V and +5V.
• Use outside this scope may result in malfunction, damage, or safety risks.

General Warnings

Electrical Hazards:
• Ensure the power supply matches the module’s specified voltage and current ratings (refer to the documentation). Incorrect voltage can damage the module and pose a safety risk.
• Never connect or disconnect the module while the Eurorack system is powered on.
• Wrong polarity can damage the module and the entire system. Verify correct orientation before powering.

Heat Generation:
• Completed modules may generate heat during operation. Ensure proper ventilation within your Eurorack case.

Sharp Edges:
• The panel and PCB may have sharp edges. Handle carefully to avoid injury.

Small Parts:
• Solder joints, headers, and hardware are small parts and may pose a choking hazard. Keep away from children and pets.

Compatibility:
• The design is intended only for Eurorack systems. Use with non-compatible formats may result in malfunction or damage.

Assembly Requirements
• Users must provide their own electronic components according to the bill of materials (BOM).
• Soldering skills are required to complete the module.
• Ensure a clean, well-lit and ventilated workspace free of flammable materials during assembly.
• Use appropriate tools and personal protective equipment, such as eye protection.

Testing
• Test the module thoroughly for shorts or incorrect assembly before powering it in your Eurorack system. When the unit has malfunctions due to incorrect assembly, the entire Eurorack system might be damaged. It's a good idea to test it in a separate case with only that single module.
• Use a multimeter or other appropriate tools to confirm proper functionality.

Installation and Use
• Mount securely in a Eurorack case using suitable screws.
• Use only a manufacturer-recommended power cable.
• Connect only when the system power is off.
• Follow module-specific documentation for correct operation. Do not exceed input/output specifications.

Responsibility
• Users are solely responsible for sourcing correct components, proper assembly, and testing.
• The manufacturer or distributor cannot guarantee performance if non-recommended components are used.
• Contact support for questions before assembly if needed.

Environmental Safety
• Dispose of PCBs, components, and packaging in accordance with local electronic waste regulations.

Liability Disclaimer
• The manufacturer or distributor is not responsible for injury, damage, or malfunction resulting from incorrect assembly, sourcing of unsuitable components, or improper installation and use.
