Modular Audio Tools - MAT 16x8 (Assembled)

Product information "Modular Audio Tools - MAT 16x8 (Assembled)"

The MAT 16X8 is an extremely compact ultra light audio and MIDI interface for mobile live setups, hardware synthesizers, drum machines, modular systems and external effects units. With 16 inputs, 8 outputs and extensive MIDI connectivity, it offers a flexible solution for performance, recording and complex routing in a format that fits easily into any mobile setup.

In combination with a computer, iPad, MPC or any other USB Audio Class 2.0 compatible host system, the MAT 16X8 can be used via the host software as a performance mixer, multitrack recorder, effects routing hub or compact studio interface. For modular systems, a level converter may be required depending on the application.

The interface operates at 24-bit resolution with sample rates of up to 96 kHz and high-quality converters offering up to 110 dB signal-to-noise ratio. Thanks to its Direct-In concept without additional preamps, the noise floor remains especially low, making it ideal for line-level signals from synthesizers, grooveboxes and drum machines. The very low roundtrip latency of up to 3.7 ms ensures a direct playing feel for live performance and recording.

Measuring only 222 × 60 × 11 mm and weighing just 135 g, the MAT 16X8 is exceptionally lightweight and space-saving. It is powered directly via USB and requires no external power supply. The 16 inputs and 8 outputs are provided through robust 3.5 mm TRS stereo jacks, with enough spacing for common connectors. Standard Y-cables can be used for 6.3 mm jack connections or mono signals.

An adjustable headphone amplifier with pre-listening function allows separate monitoring of output 1/2 or 3/4. For MIDI setups, the interface provides a TRS-A/B auto-sensing MIDI input and two independently addressable TRS-A MIDI outputs, making it easy to integrate more complex devices or create separate clock routings.

The DC-coupled outputs allow CV control in the range of ±2.5 V, expanding the interface for modular applications. The reduced, robust PCB design without a traditional enclosure keeps weight and height to a minimum, while synthetic rubber bands serve as scratch and slip protection and help with cable management. Design, development, final assembly and testing are carried out in Germany.
