Product information "Neutral Labs - Luna (Eurorack)"
Logic, Unbound. Meet Luna. The first serious Lunetta synthesizer.
Look beyond clean waveforms and predictable polyphony. Luna takes you back to a time when digital didn’t mean perfect. It meant raw. Inspired by the subterranean DIY culture of the 70s and 80s, Luna is a love letter to the Lunetta machines of old – living, breathing organisms built from CMOS logic chips. But where those machines were fragile experiments, Luna is a weaponised instrument of sonic confusion.
The Nervous System Exposed. True to the Neutral Labs philosophy, we don’t believe in hiding the magic behind an opaque faceplate. Luna features exposed CMOS inputs and outputs directly on the front panel. You're not simply patching cables – you are rewiring the brain of the synthesizer itself. Combine signals, bend logic, and physically intervene in the computation to create sounds that shouldn’t exist.
Rhythm is Timbre. Timbre is Rhythm. In the world of Luna, there is no difference between a sequencer and an oscillator. The same digital pulse that drives a bass line can be accelerated into a screeching lead or folded into a metallic drone.
Five oscillators provide the raw material. A chaotic array of logic blocks (XOR, NOT, AND, shift registers, counters, multiplexer) chews up those signals and spits out complex, evolving mathematical noise.
Taming the Digital Mess. Raw logic can be harsh. To turn this binary chaos into music, Luna feeds its digital soul through three organic low-pass gates. These analogue circuits impart a natural decay and percussive punch to the madness, transforming mathematical errors into bongos, plucks, and thumping basslines.
Drench it in Atmosphere. Once you’ve constructed your signal, destroy it again. Luna comes equipped with a suite of effects – distortion, delay, reverb, chorus, bitcrusher, phaser and more – to smear your logic into a wash of ambient bliss or gritty industrial texture.
Features:
• 5 oscillators
• Logic gates (2 XOR, 2 NOT, 2 AND)
• 5 logic blocks (5-step ring counter, 4-bit binary counter, 2 shift registers, 4-channel multiplexer)
• 3 touchpads that generate logic signals
• 3 channels for audio manipulation (low-pass gates with adjustable decay and switchable trigger mode, gain, tilt EQ)
• 13 audio effects freely assignable to 2 effect slots running in series (drive, delay, reverb, 6 filter types, bitcrusher, phaser, chorus, comb filter)
• CV control for effects and 2 oscillators
• MIDI control over 2 oscillators, all 3 low-pass gates, and 3 logic outputs
• 2 sequencers with up to 64 steps, syncable to clock or MIDI
• Headphone-compatible audio output

Neutral Labs is on a mission to develop devices that have an aspect of uniqueness and are sonically useful, easy to build, aesthetically pleasing and affordable. And we also care about: Sustainability! While it doesn't have a significant ecological impact globally, relatively speaking, the construction of electronic audio devices for private purposes still leaves a certain footprint regarding carbon dioxide through shipping, hazardous materials during manufacturing, waste through packaging and in other areas. Neutral Labs recognises that far too little is currently being done to combat the climate crisis and widespread environmental damage, and remains committed to help in small or big ways where possible. ++ certified biodegradable paper packaging or reused materials (except for ESD protective packaging – please get in contact if you have a viable alternative) ++ use of renewable raw material (bamboo, oak and bioplastic made from sugar cane) for synth cases + 100% carbon neutral electricity in our own lab ++ 100% carbon neutral shipping + lead-free PCBs and front panels ++ lead-free, fairly and sustainably produced solder (Stannol HS10 Fair and Felder SAC305 Ecotin) ++ USB powered synth means no additional power adapter needed + many components locally sourced in Europe. Non-restrictive Licensing: Neutral Labs is committed to free sharing of intellectual property. + All published schematics and PCB designs can be used freely for any private or educational purpose, but not commercially. + All open-source code can be used under the license found in the code repository. + All audio samples, software audio instruments and software audio effects by Neutral Labs can be used free of charge in any way and for any purpose. Product Safety Information
Please read this safety guide before installation or use.
Important Notice & Intended Use
• This kit is intended for adult users experienced in electronics and modular synthesis.
• The completed module is intended for installation in a Eurorack-compatible synthesizer system.
General Warnings
Sharp Edges:
• The module’s faceplate and components may have sharp edges. Handle with care to avoid cuts or scratches.
Small Parts:
• Contains small parts that could cause a choking hazard. Keep away from children and pets.
Compatibility:
• This module is designed specifically for Eurorack-compatible systems. Connecting it to non-compatible systems may result in damage or malfunction.
Assembly Requirements
• Soldering skills are required to complete the module.
• Ensure a clean, well-lit and ventilated workspace free of flammable materials during assembly.
• Use appropriate tools and safety equipment, such as eye protection.
Testing
• Test the module thoroughly for shorts or incorrect assembly before powering it in your Eurorack system. When the unit has malfunctions due to incorrect assembly, the entire Eurorack system might be damaged. It's a good idea to test it in a separate case with only that single module.
• Use a multimeter or other appropriate tools to confirm proper functionality.
Installation and Use
• Mount securely in a Eurorack case using the provided screws.
• Connect only when the power is off.
• Follow the module's user guide for instructions on operation. Do not exceed the input/output limits specified.
Responsibility
Users are solely responsible for proper assembly and testing. Contact manufacturer support for assistance if needed.
Environmental Safety
• Dispose of the module, its components, and packaging in accordance with local electronic waste regulations.
Liability Disclaimer
• The manufacturer or distributor is not responsible for any injury, damage, or malfunction resulting from improper installation, use, or modification of this product.
