Manufacturer "Befaco"

Befaco is an Eurorack manufacturer that also offers DIY kits, organizes workshops and releases their designs under Creative Commons license.

In February 2010 Befaco was created as an open hardware platform focusing on professional DIY musical hardware, materializing the previous electronic, musical and artistic research of its members.

Our main activity has been developing synthesizer modules in eurorack format and making them available in workshops. All this research is published under CC-NC-SA License, so people can download the schematics, and technical assembly guides, to make their own variations of the projects for personal and educative purposes. Also build all our designs during our regular workshops in cities as Barcelona, Madrid, London or Berlin.
During the past twelve years, apart of these regular four cities, we have visited cities as Tokyo, Kyoto, Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Lyon, Stuttgart and Amsterdam, amongst many other European cities.

These workshops are a huge test playground where we can track each module being built by different worldwide users, get direct feedback and quickly improve them with, develop new ones, or adapt these instruments to users demands constantly.

Direct contact with DIY enthusiasts allows an implication of users in the structure, allowing them to design their own modules and develop them in a professional way. This has developed into an incubation environment for several new modular initiatives, allowing different makers to start their own similar projects.

Befaco initiative is possible thanks to the support of Hangar, an artistic production centre in Barcelona, Barcelona city hall and the titanic work by the whole Befaco team.

Product Safety Information

Please read this safety guide before installation or use.

Intended use
• The DIY case is intended for end-customer assembly as a housing for electronic or mechanical devices.
• If a closed plug-in or desktop power supply unit is included or later used, it is intended exclusively for supplying power to compatible devices.
• Both products must only be used as described in these instructions. Any other use may result in damage or safety risks such as fire, electric shock or injury.

Installation and use

DIY case
• Assemble only with the supplied parts and screws, following the instructions. Use suitable tools and avoid overtightening.
• Wear protective gloves to prevent injury from sharp edges. Work in a well-lit, ventilated environment.
• Ensure all parts are firmly fixed to avoid instability.
• Only install devices that fit properly within the housing and are suitable for operation in an enclosure with the given dimensions and ventilation.

Power supply units (if included or used)
• Insert the unit fully into the socket and connect only to devices with matching voltage, current and polarity.
• Use indoors only. Avoid damp, wet or dusty environments.
• Do not cover ventilation slots. Keep away from heat sources, direct sunlight and flammable materials.
• Do not pull the plug by the cable. Avoid kinking, pinching or damaging the cable. Replace the unit if the plug or cable is damaged.
• Use only original or manufacturer-approved power supply units.

Warnings
• Sharp edges on the DIY case may cause cuts. Wearing protective gloves during assembly is mandatory.
• Small parts such as screws pose a choking hazard for children.
• Improper assembly of the case may cause instability and injury.
• If electrical devices or a power supply unit are used, risk of overheating, sparking or fire exists.
• Power supply units operate with mains voltage. Never open the housing; risk of electric shock.
• Do not use a power supply unit if it is excessively warm, noisy or visibly damaged.
• Prevent contacts of the power supply unit from touching conductive objects to avoid short circuits.
• Keep both products out of reach of children. Improper handling may cause injury or damage.
