The Dannysound VU Meters is designed to be used with 2 x Dynamics modules. Fixed voltage sources are not a new idea in modular, but we hope that Turn! Turn! brings a new twist to the concept. Turn! Turn! features two independent fixed voltage sources with a useful range of features.Turn! Turn! grew out of a conversation with Steve Levine – when a producer of such note makes a suggestion you have to listen – and act on it. Steve suggested that it would be useful to have a fixed voltage source under the control of a big knob, and the ability to go from as little as 1V over the entire range of the knob. Hence subtle, incremental changes are possible.The final feature set includes a voltage selection switch as well as a unipolar/bipolar switch. Both normal and inverted outputs are included. Wonderland is an 8×8 active patchbay/matrix mixer/switcher for both audio and control voltages.Any of the 8 inputs can be patched to any of the 8 outputs simply by pressing the corresponding switches. A patched signal will appear at both normal and inverted outputs simultaneously.A single input can be patched to a single output. A single input can be patched to multiple outputs. Multiple inputs can be patched to a single output. Multiple inputs can be patched to multiple outputs.Each input features a micro-attenuator which can be set with a small screwdriver. This space saving feature allows you to reduce the volume of an incoming signal without having to resort to external attenuators. If you add many inputs to one output you will of course cause clipping (which may or may not be desirable!), the micro-attenuators are your on-board way around this. I find it useful to leave the micro-attenuators set to 50% (which is how they come pre-set at delivery). Of course, their size is a little bit of a compromise, but they are a useful feature nonetheless. The Omen is a dual LPG with a bit more than you might be used to. Like you, I once was lost in the world of low pass gates, seeking something more, something bigger and somehow juicier. The inspiration came to me as I was reading a particularly heavy book on passive filters, and I realized it was possible to make far more interesting LPG designs than the standard we've become so accustomed to.In a convergence of old-school LPG design and more modern components, the Omen boasts two -6dB resonant filters, custom built vactrols, built in CV attenuation and no less than three cutoff modes per filter. Filter 1 is soft and light, imparting a gentle, naturally gated touch of filtering on your sound, while Filter 2 is darker and more resonant, and can turn downright growly and distorted when left wide open.Designed to give you as many creative options as possible, the Omen has the unique ability to function as either two discrete LPG, or as one 4-pole resonant LPG. When plugging a signal in to Input 1, and with no signal plugged into Input 2, the output will be present at both Output 1 and Output 2, with Output 2 producing the signal as it passes through both filters. Tweaking both filters independently will generate a wide array of soft and sometimes harsh tones, ranging from Buchla bongos to early synthesis brass and organ sounds. There is much to love here.CV is similarly handled, by plugging in only one CV source, it will act on both channels - this is useful for creating musically similar outputs as well as when using the dual filter operation. However, the dual filter mode greatly benefits from having two CV inputs: use an envelope in CV1 to act as a VCA, and an LFO in CV2 to create tremolo, for instance.Using custom designed, hand built vactrols, care has been taken to mitigate the less desirable aspects of passive LPGs - in most modules, the user can expect zero bleed through on the LPG channels, and signal attenuation is minimal even with the 4-pole filter settings engaged. Of course, many of the natural features of vactrols remain, such as subtle memory effect when engaging the vactrol for long periods.DIY enthusiast? Rejoice! Test 3 is a purpose-designed tool for measuring voltages and currents in your Eurorack system. This means that just a single circuit board or module can now replace a convoluted test setup with multiple multimeters, custom cables etc.Two push buttons allow you to cycle the value shown on the LED display between three measurements (voltage, current and stored peak current) of the three power rails. The MSK 008 Voltage-Controlled Octave Switch is a multifunction voltage processor. The module has two channels, each containing a whole-volt quantizer that maps its input to the nearest integer number of volts from -2 to +2; a three-position toggle switch that shifts the quantizer boundaries up or down by a volt; and a precision adder (with optional subtraction function).If you simply route a pitch CV through one of the unquantized CV1 inputs, it can be a performance control, allowing easy transposition up or down an octave at the flip of a switch. That might be useful for VCOs without their own built-in octave switches. With no input signal, it generates a selectable offset of -1, 0, or +1 volts; feed that into an attenuated exponential FM input somewhere and you get the same tactile control over any other interval transposition you choose.But the possibilities really open up when you start using more inputs. An LFO into the quantized input gives the effect of flipping the octave switch under CV control, keeping your hands free to wiggle elsewhere. Using the unquantized inputs, which are normalled across the two channels, you can transpose one sequence by another. The CV2 input can add or subtract, selectable during build by a solder jumper on the circuit board; in a default build, CV2 adds on the left channel and subtracts on the right, but do-it-yourselfers can change this selection, or design their own expanders to make it switchable on the fly.Combining the two channels, with or without other utility modules, allows more complex melody-shifting effects. And it doesn't have to be just for oscillator pitch control. Switching fixed-voltage offsets on filter cutoffs also makes for great drops and timbral shifts. (And try putting the result through a slew limiter!) The default sum and difference configuration allows the module to act as a "mid-side" encoder or decoder. With other patching it can be a flip-flop or a wavefolder.The MSK 008 is fast enough to work on audio. MUTE || VCA x6 might not be the smoothest of module names, however this module is a utility gem that packs a lot of punch per HP. In essence, MUTE || VCA x6 is six clickless and DC-coupled mute channels in 8 HP that can be used for muting virtually any signal within a Eurorack system. Each mute channel can be set on or off either by pushing the corresponding illuminated switch or by feeding it any signal that goes over +1 volt above ground.Six channels of mutes is surely a great thing, but what if you could configure each channel to be either a MUTE or a VCA? This module allows you to do just that! –(And this is also where the name comes from; || meaning OR)– On the back of the module there are six switches, one for each channel, and these can be set to either MUTE or VCA. This means that the module can be configured to any combination of MUTES and VCAs you wish. In VCA mode the CV input offers linear CV control over the VCA. The switch adds +5V to the CV input if it is activated, effectively making it possible to switch the CV input between bipolar and unipolar behaviour which is very handy when controlling the VCAs with LFOs.The inputs are also normalled against each other through the switched jacks, so connecting a signal into the first input cascades it to all other channels. This is perfect for sending one sound to different effects, or distributing a clock to several modules and having the option to turn the clocks on or off dynamically.Finally, with the mute switches laid out in a row to the right makes this perfect to mount to the rightmost edge of any Eurorack live system, enabling easy access to the mute switches during a live performance. OFFSET x6 is the perfect sibling to the ATTENUVERT x6 - six DC offset channels in a slim package!The module consists of six inputs, six outputs and six knobs. Each offset channel can offset AC or DC signals with +/- 5V DC. Without any signal connected to the inputs, the outputs generate adjustable +/- 5V DC voltages, which for instance could be handy for offsetting v/oct inputs on a VCO.OFFSET x6 is a very useful utility module for tuning in DC offsets for modulation. Many digital modules only accept unipolar modulation (only positive voltages), and many modulation sources are bipolar (positive and negative voltages). OFFSET x6 makes it possible to “shift” the +/- 5V signal from an LFO to instead being a 0-10V signal.
