Befaco is an Eurorack manufacturer that also offers DIY kits, organizes workshops and releases their designs under Creative Commons license.
In February 2010 Befaco was created as an open hardware platform focusing on professional DIY musical hardware, materializing the previous electronic, musical and artistic research of its members.
Our main activity has been developing synthesizer modules in eurorack
format and making them available in workshops. All this research is
published under CC-NC-SA License, so people can download the schematics,
and technical assembly guides, to make their own variations of the
projects for personal and educative purposes. Also build all our designs
during our regular workshops in cities as Barcelona, Madrid, London or
Berlin.
During the past twelve years, apart of these regular four
cities, we have visited cities as Tokyo, Kyoto, Toronto, Montreal,
Chicago, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Lyon, Stuttgart and Amsterdam, amongst
many other European cities.
These workshops are a huge test playground where we can track each module being built by different worldwide users, get direct feedback and quickly improve them with, develop new ones, or adapt these instruments to users demands constantly.
Direct contact with DIY enthusiasts allows an implication of users in the structure, allowing them to design their own modules and develop them in a professional way. This has developed into an incubation environment for several new modular initiatives, allowing different makers to start their own similar projects.
Befaco initiative is possible thanks to the support of Hangar, an artistic production centre in Barcelona, Barcelona city hall and the titanic work by the whole Befaco team.

IROI is a compact 18HP stereo effects processor designed to transform external sound sources into deep, atmospheric textures. Kickall is a 6HP compact synth voice that features everything needed to make a big fat Kick sound. A stable VCO that tracks V/Oct, a couple of VCAs, envelopes for volume and pitch and an aggressive waveshaper.The module has been designed with a kick synthesis patch in mind.The audio path consists of a sinewave oscillator that passes across a Square Waveshaper and two VCA’s. The first VCA is for the Volume envelope. The second VCA is dedicated to general volume. Thanks to his CV input, it is possible o apply accents or affects the dynamics of notes. Feeding this input with audio generates a basic AM operation expanding the sonic range of the module.In the control path, KickAll has two envelope circuits to modulate the first VCA oscillator’s pitch. Utilitarian Audio & CV Mixer - (Version 2025)Combine up to four audio and or CV sources into one output, with independent manual level control. Muxlicer is a sequential signal processor designed for add a huge range of special functions to your modular setup in the minimum space.Is divided in three main blocks: a Digital Step Controller, a Gate Generator and an Analog Switch (a.k.a. Mux/DeMux)The module is designed with high “function to HP ratio” philosophy , to have maximum flexibility in minimum space.An analog switch is a device capable of switching or routing analog signals. In the case of Muxlicer, the switch is reversible, so you can send 8 different signals to 1 destination and viceversa.Through Common I/O you can either send a signal to the Mux I/Os or receive a signal from them. (Depending on how the module is connected). It is also used as CV Out when nothing is connected to “All In” or “Mux I/Os”.
