Voltage controlled Filter Moog Taurus. Raging Bull is based on the legendary Moog Taurus Mk I VCF and VCA. It has a lovely, thick Moog-like quality, which is further enhanced by the drive you can get out of its VCA at higher settings.A big part of the sound of the Taurus was the way in which the VCF interfaced with the VCA, so on Raging Bull the VCA is always in the audio path. A toggle switch allows you to select ‘always open’ or CV control of the VCA from CV input 3.By sending an ADSR into CV3, the signal will go to the VCA CV input unattenuated and the VCF CV input via the attenuator 2. By sending a gate into CV3, and setting the attenuator to zero, the VCA can be gated while the gate has no affect on the VCF.DIY-Kit-Type:THT-Kit-1. Variable Roland style filter. Based on the Roland System 700 state variable filter module. Lowpass, bandpass and highpass outputs. A big part of the sound of the State 700 is the way in which resonance is reduced as the audio inputs are driven harder. It won’t self oscillate with a hot audio input, throttle back a little and you’ll get squelchy ear bleeding resonances!DIY-Kit-Type:THT-Kit-1. This is a Do-It-Yourself kit, not an assembled module. Frequency Central - Whiteface
Frequency Central - Whiteface

available

Whiteface is based on the legendary ARP4023 VCF module often found in the “whiteface” ARP Odyssey Mk1. I’ve engineered out the rare parts and the need for matched transistors for the CV input section by using a Roland-inspired circuit there instead, no change to the vibe though! The audio path remains pure ARP, with one exception – built as specified on the schematic, the resonance would clip in a way which is neither musical or desirable when set too high. I’ve come across a couple of other versions which have this ‘don’t turn it up past 8’ trait, but I went further and engineered that out – a single resistor value change. In Whiteface, the resonance is usable and musical over the entire range!DIY-Kit-Type:THT-Kit-1. This is a Do-It-Yourself kit, not an assembled module. The kit includes all parts to build the module. Frequency Central - XVCF TWO

Roland System 100M based VCF for Eurorack. Way back in the mists of time, I acquired a Roland System 100m, my first modular system. I’d used Roland synths of that era before, and what always stood out was the clarity and precision of the filters, clean and squelchy with searing resonance. My 100m boasted 3 filters, and had these qualities in spades. When I started out into Eurorack, it was this sound that I craved, but there was nothing quite like it available in the format, so I made my own. Soon, folks started knocking, asking me to build a Roland style filter module for them too. So, System X Filter was born, adding a 12dB output in addition to the regular 24dB output. This module has adapted and changed over the time we have been producing it, now renamed XCF TWO to sit alongside our XVCO TWO. I like to feel that the current version is the best of the lot!DIY-Kit-Type:THT-Kit-1. This is a Do-It-Yourself kit, not an assembled module. The kit includes all parts to build the module. Herzlich Labs - Omen
Herzlich Labs - Omen

sold out at the moment

The Omen is a dual LPG with a bit more than you might be used to. Like you, I once was lost in the world of low pass gates, seeking something more, something bigger and somehow juicier. The inspiration came to me as I was reading a particularly heavy book on passive filters, and I realized it was possible to make far more interesting LPG designs than the standard we've become so accustomed to.In a convergence of old-school LPG design and more modern components, the Omen boasts two -6dB resonant filters, custom built vactrols, built in CV attenuation and no less than three cutoff modes per filter. Filter 1 is soft and light, imparting a gentle, naturally gated touch of filtering on your sound, while Filter 2 is darker and more resonant, and can turn downright growly and distorted when left wide open.Designed to give you as many creative options as possible, the Omen has the unique ability to function as either two discrete LPG, or as one 4-pole resonant LPG. When plugging a signal in to Input 1, and with no signal plugged into Input 2, the output will be present at both Output 1 and Output 2, with Output 2 producing the signal as it passes through both filters. Tweaking both filters independently will generate a wide array of soft and sometimes harsh tones, ranging from Buchla bongos to early synthesis brass and organ sounds. There is much to love here.CV is similarly handled, by plugging in only one CV source, it will act on both channels - this is useful for creating musically similar outputs as well as when using the dual filter operation. However, the dual filter mode greatly benefits from having two CV inputs: use an envelope in CV1 to act as a VCA, and an LFO in CV2 to create tremolo, for instance.Using custom designed, hand built vactrols, care has been taken to mitigate the less desirable aspects of passive LPGs - in most modules, the user can expect zero bleed through on the LPG channels, and signal attenuation is minimal even with the 4-pole filter settings engaged. Of course, many of the natural features of vactrols remain, such as subtle memory effect when engaging the vactrol for long periods.DIY enthusiast? Rejoice! The Omen is available as a fully loaded DIY kit - everything you need to build your very own Omen packed in one place, so you can easily build one in the comfort of your own home. It is not a difficult DIY project, an ambitious beginner or someone with experience from a few easy builds can tackle the Omen in an afternoon. The build is all through-hole aside from three SMD components, which are easily soldered by hand due to their large size. Finally, you receive maximum blinkenlights as LED's on the front panel simulate the action of the vactrols, so you'll always know what's going on under the hood. No collection of fancy LPG's is complete without the Omen - add some analog warmth to your signals, today.Features:• Functions both as two discrete LPGs or as one multi-pole filter LPG• A passive LPG without the characteristic signal bleed or input loss• You read that right: each LPG contains a resonant two-pole filter• Comprehensive build guide, complete with picturesDIY-Kit-Type:THT-Kit-1. Hex Haus - HEX row
Hex Haus - HEX row

sold out at the moment

HEX row is an analogue dual resonant filter with versatile routing capabilities, sidechain/envelope follower and mischievous character, stemming from (mis)use of transistors as variable resistors in the signal route. There are two channels, each controlled by three potentiometers: GAIN (2), RES (3), FREQ (4) and sidechained by CENTER (5). Both channels have the same topology. Inputs •| and |• are fed into each channel’s gain stage and then passed to their filters. The input signal level can be adjusted by setting the GAIN which can either attenuate or amplify a signal x20. Note that the amplification affects the filter’s behaviour—high GAIN disrupts self-oscillation, conjuring PLL-esque harmonics and other sound design artefacts. FREQ and RES are used to manipulate individual filter’s cutoff frequency and resonance. Each channel has a side-mounted switch (6) for selecting low-pass or band-pass filtering. Touch the golden touch pads (1) to manually route the flow of audio and control voltages.SIDECHAIN – Left channel’s (•I, •O) post-gain signal is filtered and fed into an envelope follower. Envelopes polarity and amplitude are adjusted by using CENTER. The adjusted envelope is then mixed in the right(|•, O•) channel’s FREQ parameter. Left half of the CENTER causes the filter to “duck” and the right half produces a gating response. In the middle position, the sidechain effect is inactive.TOPOLOGIESFEEDBACK – Connect the •O and I• sockets with a jack cable and use O• as the main output. Leave •I unconnected as it’s normalised to O• by default.Alternatively, using stereo cables and a headphone splitter adapter enables the use of •O as output with dramatic stereo field dynamics.SERIAL – Connect the audio source to I• and use the •O as output.Input signals are processed through subsequent channels as •I is normalised to O•. This mode enables the so-called twin peak and auto-filtering.PARALLEL – Connect a stereo audio source into •I or two mono sources to •I and I•.Left and right signals are split into separate channels, processed and output as stereo signal via •O or as mono on both outputs. You will need a soldering iron, solder, pliers, tweezers and some patience. Before you begin the process, make sure you are working on a clean, well-lit surface. Be careful with the components, some of them are very small—take them out of the packaging one at a time, when needed. Most of the tiny SMD components are marked with numbers that match the numbers printed on the PCB. If you are new to soldering (SMD), we recommend watching some online tutorials beforehand. For the assembly video, visit our website. In any case, take it slow, go step by step and enjoy the process of building your HEX. It’s like a puzzle that you can use and play with afterwards.
