Crum Hum is a 3-voice experimental and expressive soundscaping instrument designed for generative and ever-evolving melodic and harmonic creation.The Crum Hum features 12 sound engines which range from simple sawtooth and square waves with lowpass filtering, to various wavetable and FM engines and more complex setups like bass, chords, and melody. There are also 12 different built-in scales to play with.Each of the three voices has a triangular touchpad that lets you control the timbre and volume simultaneously. Each voice also offers a Frequency knob for setting the lowest possible note, as well as a Random knob that sets the probability of notes being played for each clock pulse.The Tone knob affects the timbre of all three voices simultaneously. What it does exactly depends on the selected sound engine and the tone can also be randomized for subtle to drastic sonic variations at each clock pulse.Moreover, Crum Hum features built-in delay, reverb, and overdrive effects, as well as an LFO that can modulate the frequency, tone, or volume. There’s an internal clock generator, but it’s also possible to sync the synth to an external clock source. This is the DIY Desktop version of this unit, but it can also used as an Eurorack module. Plinky is an 8 voice expressive polyphonic touch synthesizer that specializes in fragile, melancholic sounds, designed by mmalex.Think of it as an eight stringed instrument, with eight vertical monophonic strips. You can play it straight away on its 64 main pads. Each of the eight strings has 4 oscillators or sampler grains, detuned by the touch of your fingers, white noise, two ADSR envelopes and a resonant 2-pole low-pass gate. Plinky also has a global delay, reverb, high pass filter and saturation along with a simple mixer, arpeggiator, sequencer and sampler. It supports four external CV modulation sources, each with their own LFO.Plinky was released in 2021, then hit hard by the chip crisis. The Threetom Modular Doppio is a compact stereo amplifier, drive, and soft limiter module. Doppio helps complex and dynamic stereo sounds to find their place in a modular synthesizer context, where signals are hot, and headroom is extremely limited. Doppio does this by implementing a compact, yet flexible, soft-knee limiter. The limiter is specifically designed for eurorack levels and avoids the need for unnecessary make-up gain, resulting in a lower noise floor.Doppio offers three different gain settings (x1, x5, x21), and three different ratios (linear, drive, and limit). In addition to this Doppio has gain and volume knobs for more precise control. Different combinations of these settings cater to applications like saturating complex stereo signals without turning them into mush, end-of-chain limiting, and boosting line level signals to eurorack level, while still retaining enough oomph to also saturate them nicely. Finding the right settings is made easy by DOPPIO’s unique coffee-bean-shaped indicator lights.Even though Doppio’s architecture is stereo, that doesn’t mean it has no uses on mono signals: Either process two mono signals with identical settings, or chain the two channels to form a two-stage high-gain mono drive. The Threetom Modular “Mixing Flask” is a utility mixer offering mix-bus limiting and a cornucopia of indicator lights integrated behind a unique chemical lab-inspired front panel.I designed Mixing Flask as a solution to my main three gripes with conventional utility mixers:• Mixing too hot is too easy, leading to hard clipping on the mix-bus. And even when there’s an indicator light to warn you when this is happening, there are no features to actively prevent it.• Utility mixers usually only offer unity gain, so when you have a weak input signal (like a MTM Radio Music), you’re out of luck• They’re nauseatingly boringMIXING FLASK provides solutions to these annoyances in the following ways:• I’ve implemented a soft-clipping limiting circuit on the mix-bus (inspired by DOPPIO). The highest setting prevents the mix-bus from hard clipping altogether in favor of warm saturation.• All inputs have a gain of +6dB allowing you to better equalize between volumes while maintaining a hot mix-bus output• The myriad of indicator lights and front-panel graphics make you feel like a mad scientist in your modular chemical lab. Strakal Brulu is a great sounding Germanium Fuzz Module. Very characteristic for the module’s sound if the feedback that is coupled to the feedback. The more fuzz, the more feedback. The Strakal Brulu 2 can get pretty nasty and it screams a lot at high fuzz settings and low input level. Strakal Orsel is a tube distortion module that injects organic, vintage character into a modular setup. True to Touell Skouarn tradition, control labels use Breton terminology, while input and output are marked with arrows for clarity.The unit’s topology offers flexible tonal shaping: the Triodenn selector changes the left tube between pentode and triode operation, altering the core sound. The Boukl Retroaktiñ control combines a feedback engage switch with a level pot that ranges from subtle thickening to full, screaming self-oscillation. Gounid sets the balance between the first and second stages. Ampled governs the amount of saturation. A dedicated CV input, Enkas Modulañ, lets external control influence feedback and overall level even when feedback is not engaged.Beyond straightforward distortion, the circuitry produces rich secondary behaviors. With feedback pushed wide the circuit behaves as a powerful effect oscillator whose pitch responds to CV (not calibrated to strict 1 V/oct tracking). The Foldiplier is a 4 HP odd/even harmonics generator with 2 different oscillating feedback paths. The folding core of the design originates from the odd harmonics (middle)section of the Serge Wave Multiplier. But the Foldiplier adds voltage control over the symmetry and offset as well as a switch for feedback, jumper selectable between, a transistor based oscillating fuzz inspired by the Hemmo Bazz Fuss with a lot more low harmonic content and a passive oscillating half wave rectification circuit with more high harmonic content. When these feedback oscillations mix with an incoming waveform some unpredictable and unique nonlinear timbres can be achieved. The module can also be used as a no-input experimental oscillator with the feedback switch engaged. All diodes in the module are silicon.The Fold knob controls the amount of times the waveform is folded in on its self (indicated by the red led window below the knob). The C.V. knob below is an attenuator for incoming control voltage corresponding to the Fold jack(indicated by the red led window above the jack, it only responds to positive voltage). So, the Fold knob acts like an initial amount of folding depending on its position. For example, with the Fold knob fully clockwise you can get even more folds with a control voltage in at the Fold jack. The Offset knob controls how much positive DC voltage(0 to 5v, clockwise) or negative(0 to -5v counter clockwise) DC voltage(indicated by the led window above the Offset jack, red for positive, yellow for negative) injected into the waveform via the Symmetry knob. With the Offset knob position at noon(0v) there will little effect from the Symmetry knob. The Offset jack is expecting +5v to -5v with knob position at noon to scan through the positive and negative voltage. The Symmetry knob controls the amount of negative or positive offset voltage(dependent on the Offset knob) mixed with the waveform(indicated by the yellow led window above the Symmetry jack). If positive voltage is mixed with incoming waveform more folds will occur on the positive troughs of the waveform, likewise, when negative voltage is introduced more folds happen on the negative troughs. This part of the circuit can also be broken down by thinking of the Offset as a voltage controlled crossfader swinging between positive and negative voltages into a VCA controlled by the Symmetry knob and jack. When a voltage is present at the Symmetry jack the Symmetry knob becomes an attenuator. The Symmetry jack only responds to positive voltageDIY-Kit-Type:THT-Kit-1.
